Liberals, Moderates and Conservatives, Oh my!

Yesterday I got called a Liberal like it was something bad.

I was called a Liberal because I criticised Intelligent Design being taught in schools. I think being called a Liberal these days is akin to being called a "Pinko" in the 50's. Intelligent Design is simply Creationism under a new and flashy name. Creationism was banned from being taught in schools, there is no reason why this new, modernised version of it should be taught there.

This issue went on trial yesterday in Pennsylvania.

Uhg. Soon I will be forced to wear a red dress and be called a Handmaid. Doctors will be killed and put up for public display. The 'Angels' will fight against all outside influences and the world will be a very hard place to live. I for one will shout from the rooftops: "May Day! May Day!" Am I unpatriotic because I do not think that Religion has a place in the State? Am I a horrible person because I don't think that Religious drivvel should be taught in schools?

((And Does anyone else catch The Handmaid's Tale references in life lately?))

I'm good with it so long as they give equal time to other Intelligent Design theories, especially the Flying Spaghetti Monster (http://www.venganza.org/).

Be touched by his noodly appendage, become a Pastafarian.

WHY YOU SHOULD CONVERT TO FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTERISM:

* Flimsy moral standards.
* Every friday is a relgious holiday. If your work/school objects to that, demand your religious beliefs are respected and threaten to call the ACLU.
* Our heaven is WAY better. We've got a Stripper Factory AND a Beer Volcano.

Mind you, it's only the media and creationists who refer to it as a 'theory'. It is not recognized as a scientific theory. The National Academy of Science dubbed it "Creationism in disguise".

Phillip Johnson ("Father of Intelligent Design") has some gem like quotes, where he lets slip the idea behind ID.

"Our strategy has been to change the subject a bit so that we can get the issue of intelligent design, which really means the reality of God, before the academic world and into the schools."

"This isn't really, and never has been a debate about science. It's about religion and philosophy."

I know how you feel... I get the scathing "liberal" label quite often. It always reminds me of the way I was called a "communist" in junior high during Reagan's administration because I was a democrat. It never seems to end... like yer a unpatriotic castoff just because you don't nod your head to every administrative action.

Don't even get me started on Intelligent Design again... shudder.
