Twins II

From beyond the grave -
   Artemis shot her bow
  and brought down nations.
Apollo laughed with his sister
   and rode his chariot
  round hades, shooting
    arrows to the Earth.

They would not let it end.
   Revenge was too sweet.
Justice was blind -
    to innocense
    to wisdom.

After a time, they were not the
the twins we knew, but rather -

Children of Ares
    tainted by War.
   Blind to all others
    and deaf to the screams
  of the people they intended
to save

from their Fate.

Artemis and Apollo crashed
   into each other
The sun and the moon -
    divine twins
both, fell out of the sky.

The moon burst into flames
   and tumbled from the sky,
The earth stood still,
    uncertain on
   how to tell the times.

When the sun went out -
Apollo diving in free fall -
Ash fell from the sky like snow
The tears fell down across the Earth.

The remains of the day
    of the night
are covered in ash
   silent as snow,
tainted by tears.

The silence was ripe
   The sorrow overwhelming
Then twins of the sky died
   bringing the Earth
   the people, the times
   to a stillness
that no one could comprehend.

Star Shaped Fountain

Star Shaped Fountain

I saw
a fountain in the shape of a star.
Lilies on the water.
At night,
   stars reflected off the surface
I reflected on the surface.

My reflections
  is not who I am.
   The reflection of the stars
    that are so distant-
   so far away-
     they shudder on the surface.

I am so far away.

I can touch the reflection,
   but like smoke,
    like water
      it remains ellusive.

I slip through my own fingers.

And fall
into the star shaped fountain
    like water.

Right v. Left

The other day someone looked at me and said "You're a right winger, yes?"

I looked straight back at him and blinked. "I have no idea. Right, left, what does it matter?"

So, he retorted with, "You're a Democrat, right?" To which I replied, "Nope, I'm not."

This threw him for a loop and he knitted his brow, "So, you're a Republican?"

"Nope."

"Well, now I'm baffled. Well, not really, I suppose that explains why you are so laid back."

"What have my politics got to do with being laid back?"

"Good point."

I was amused that the conversation had gotten that far, and then veered elsewhere without him actually asking me what party I belong to. I appreciated it. Politics are a strange animal and I don't like to prescribe to one view. Things are not "this way" or "that way". I do not consider myself political, but I consider myself active and informed. Is there a difference? I don't know.

And... I still don't know what the right side and the left side of the line are. Conservative, liberal... who cares. Take a stand on individual issues, don't lump them all together into one category. Think damn it!

Maybe I like tofu, but that doesn't mean I'm a vegetarian. The same goes for politics. Just because I'm for gay marriage and against war, that doesn't make me liberal. I'm for 'family values', I'm for the right to bare arms, I'm for higher taxes, I'm for welfare reform. I'm also for the separation of church and state, I'm for education, I'm for government subsidized grants to further that education, I'm for stem cell research. I look at the issues, not at the party.

Our founding fathers never intended there to be 'parties'. They intended there to be people speaking for the issues of the time. Parties force you to line up all your ideas with one way of thinking. I vote a person, not a party. Tell me what you think, tell me what you believe. I want to hear it. If I don't agree, I won't vote for you. I am tired of choosing the lesser of two evils. I am tired of hearing people regurgitate the 'party line' without any thought or inspiration of their own. Prove to me you can think. Show me you've got something up there that possesses a spark of human intelligence and individuality.

I like my veggie burgers with bacon, thank you.

To wit... I have no political party affiliation. I don't have to. And remember, neither do you.
