Degrees of Separation - Country Edition - Rustic Measure V4

For the upcoming edition of Rustic Measure (airing tonight after Deathsquad Show from 11pm to midnight), I decided to play a little Degrees of Separation with the playlist.

What is Degrees of Separation, you ask? Well… in our case, I take a song and that song must link to the next song played by a common word in the title of the song, a lyric in the song itself, or from the name of the artist singing it. For example… I could link Indian Outlaw by Tim McGraw to the next song, I Know, You Know by the Friendly Indians (theme from Psych)… the common link between them is “Indian” from the title in the first song and the group name in the second song. The third song would then have to link to the second by a new word/phrase. The link can be a whole phrase or a single word. A first name or a last name of the artist.

The goal is to link all songs played, from the starting song to the ending show song. Fifteen songs await. One hour of musical challenge. It’s pure country madness only on KMRL - Mojo Radio Live! Post your solutions to the link on the Forum! Play along!

Predator/Prey

Sometimes I think that what humanity needs is a natural predator. (no, not a sexual predator, those get fed to the sharks first) We mess up the planet and spread with wild abandon like mice without a cat. A community festering as it grows, distracted by meaningless things... just wanting more for the sake of having it. Ruining more, consuming more, and wasting more for the shit and giggles of it. Where is the balance to it. Where's the big arse land shark to cull the herd. The rabid super sized house cat on a rampage for its owner with a side of kibble and bits. We cease to evolve because we have no genetic need to. Technology is our false evolution. We are carried on the back of our technology. Sustainability and time. There is a limit to all things.

I see you shiver...

The Probe is off to the mechanic on the back of a flatbed. Stuck in park (it does start)... I don't THINK it's the transmission because I never heard any strange noises or lurches the last time I drove it... Lord only knows. Now entering freak out period of anticipation. The one thing I can't handle... when your mind starts blowing things out of proportion and you start over preparing yourself for the worst. I just hope to god it's not some catastrophic price. I can't afford it.

Must ride into work with another tomorrow. Take their car to Wapak to pay my Uncle's real estate taxes (late, see prior entry)... drive back to Lima and go to the college to work... drive to Apollo and work. yada yada yada ad nauseum.

Sign of the Times

My patience level is wearing thin.

Dealing with these estate bills sends me into tirading fits. We finally got bank statements for Grandfather's bank accounts for the last year and notice how he wasn't paying bills since a year november. Taking large cash withdrawals. I totalled the credit card debt on the credit report and came up with over 40k in debt, before the federal tax lien. Considering how all of his credit cards were paid off in 2004 when he went into the nursing home for emergency care... and based on the fact that he has absolutely no assets to explain 40K in debt... nor did he go anywhere... nor gamble. One can only get more and more suspicious of a certain someone with the new van, new deck on the back porch, etc etc etc. Will now have to pull the credit cards together and try to get itemizations for these charges to see what was being purchased.

My uncle decides to send an email explaining how he is in the Phillipines again. Let's leave my son at home with my brother and just up and leave the country again. Where is the common sense in the world. How he is seeing how supportive a family is supposed to be and all. (which i take as a slap in the face) Oh, and pretty much letting us know that he forgot to pay his property taxes and could we be kind enough to handle it for him, thanks. Now given that they were due on the 15th and tomorrow is a legal holiday, its pretty much late now.

Cap that all off with the fact that my car refuses to move, I am stressed out.

Not feeling especially well all the way around. Im just tired of listening to b.s. from people and dealing with their problems when they don't seem to give a crap about mine. Harsh I know, but you know what... I say nothing and get nothing. What's one more pissed off family member, like they give a shit that i am.

Dream - There Can Be Only One

This one was about Highlander. You know, the movie about cutting off the other immortals' head and saying "There can be only one." Me and my friend, Lin, were both immortals. She had caught another in one of my rentals and had got into a fight. Called me about it being a trap and how she was injured and to bring my sword. I go over and find nothing, no sign of anything. Was wearing the requisite long trenchcoat, a neat steel gauntlet that could be used to break a sword if I was lucky enough to grab the opponent's blade... and a decent double edge. Maybe this dream is to be continued.

And there was snow

Plenty of snow on the ground right now. At least a couple of feet. The back porch door is completely covered, banked all the way past the handle. The roof looks like a mirror of the ground, with huge banks on it. The car started at least, but I about burst my lungs trying to dig it out with the cold stealing every breath... it's "mostly" out now, though I will need to take another shift with the shovel to excavate more of it out. I wish I had a snow mobile to go out on, its definitely mobile weather. No work or school today either. County is still under blizzard alert, no one allowed on the road.

Dream - Heroes

I had a dream that I was in the Heroes world. That I was attacked by one that could adopt the features of the person they touched. They adopt your features and appearance, you are stuck with theirs. Then this person stole a large amount of money and I (being the one that appeared to have stolen it) was blamed for it.

Dream - Niagara

Dreamt that we lived in a house looking over Niagara Falls. Right on the precipice overlooking it with the mist coming up out of the falls. For some reason the house ends up empty, with a people walking thru it looking at it with a realtor. I can't find my vehicle to leave, nor my money or anything to get me somewhere else, so I decide to walk. I find Sierra loose outside and get upset cause I can't find a carrier to carry her in or a leash to walk her with. I watch a grizzly bear swim across Niagara and not go down the falls.

Dream - Satan's Kitten

For some reason I had a dream that one of my high school friends, Julie, was downstairs in the living room having a long conversation with Ian. When I come in I find Cricket in Ian's lap, worn out and exhausted and one of Satan's children (my name for the trio of wild cats that live outside - a younger litter sibling of Cricket's) lieing next to her. It's dark striped with an undercoat layer of pumpkin orange color (more dark than orange though.) This is the kitten that is somewhat developmentally stunted... a runt as it were. The thing is nearly a munchkin (wouldn't that be a money maker.)

I freak out and go into a tirade about how that animal has no shots and claws and likely fleas and lord knows what other parasites. The thing gets up and promptly digs its claws into my leg, getting attached and raking deep... drawing all manner of blood. Which naturally makes me scream and try to pull it off, but it just digs in more. Julie starts yelling at me not to hurt the thing, while Ian in slow motion gets to the porch door to open it, like I have been screaming at him to do to throw this cat out. Cricket keeps coming over and checking it out. I throw the cat outside and it promptly tries to get right back in. Scratching at the patio door repeatedly as I slam the door.

Quit Smoking

I cannot know what it feels like to try to give up cigarette smoking. I have never smoked. Heck, I don't even drink or use drugs. The most I have had to give up is a 6+ soda a day habit. I draw no connection to how related caffeine habits are to nicotine... because I think cigarettes are far more addictive. So again, I don't know what its like. It's hard enough for me to distract myself from caffeine... I can only magnify that feeling in what I think it must be for a quitting smoker.

All I know is what it does. I watched my grandmother suffer for years from the effects of her own smoking. She quit ten years prior to her death, but the cancer had already started. There were months where she would have "spells" when she wouldn't come out of the bedroom or let anyone in... just not feeling well. Being a nurse, you would have thought she would have sought out treatment... it didn't happen. I guess the fear of "knowing" the truth was too much as well... I must get my manias honestly.

All cancers are evil to watch. Lung cancer is especially draining. It takes the wind from your sails. That feeling of trying to catch your breath because you smoke... magnify that several times over. The wasting of the body is terrifying. The pain with every ragged breath. The medications barely cleave a way through it. You are left in a fugue state, barely existing. Endless machines and tanks surround you... covered in tubes and lines... all just to push one more breath into you. And it goes on and on... until it ends. It's hideous. When there is nothing that you can do.

This is why I hate cigarettes. Not just hate... it goes deeper than that... I DESPISE them. They are the source... they are the nagging drive... they are bottled thunder just waiting to be opened and shock the hell of the user into opening the next. Yes, the person chooses to smoke... but in the end, the addiction makes it difficult as hell to give up.

I am a silent militant against smoking. I do NOT make smokers miserable. I don't throw a bitch fit over a smoker in a restaurant. I just go somewhere else. I don't whine about someone smoking in my house. I leave the room. I am not that vociferous loud mouth that likes to prattle on about how he knows better. All I know is what I personally experienced from it myself. No, I don't believe this will happen to every smoker. Being the alarmist... It's the only result I see, however unrealistic that may be.

I can't control if someone smokes... but all I can ever see is the end result... over and over. All I can feel is what it feels like to be in the room with someone suffering from it, wasting away, dieing. The worry never goes away... you can hear the crud in someone's lungs in a conversation... the throat constriction... the staining of the skin around the fingers... the smell of smoke and nicotine in the hair and clothes. You can see the weakness permeating the body... how steps are an issue, making the body feel like lead... the wheezing from the exertion of walking one step too far.

I can't speak on how hard it is to quit smoking. I don't know and hopefully I never will. All I know is I hope and pray Webkittyn makes it through the raging needs and mind numbing temptations to fight her way through it. I know it won't be easy. I don't know what it feels like. All I know is, she doesn't deserve to live with it. No one does.

Bad mania day. So agitated that every sound irritated me. Which led to me getting more aggravated. So naturally I ended up trying to burn it all away by working myself into a lather. Snow shovel the front of the house (burn your lungs out from the cold and waste your back from throwing 3-4 inch snow piles); start and clean off all the cars; Do my taxes; do four loads of laundry; do the dishes; reorder several disorganized things; put all my cds away in the carousel; clean off the stairs; put away all the coats; throw all the shoes into the appropriate owner's room. yada yada yada.

This is what happens when I let the agitation grow (estate stuff and other stuff)... triggers my manic anxiety... which throws me into these clean sweep or destructive modes. Too bad no one had a barn they needed raised or something... coulda happened.

Holey Jeans

Why is it that every pair of jeans I buy ends up getting holes right at the corner of the back pockets within a month. I don't even use the back pockets that often... it's not like I store a camper back there or anything. Doesn't seem to matter what brand of jeans it is either. How irritating!

What happens when you forget that your next upcoming show is preceding Valentine's Day? You end up recording a show that has nothing to do with it ... realizing it... and going, "Golly gee, do I let it go or record a dedicated show?" Ponders to no end.

So you see the dilemna. My foible is your benefit. An extra edition of Rustic Measure Tonight, following the Deathsquad Show, from 11:00pm until Midnight.

The theme of tonight's show (I actually came up with one!) is something I like to call "What's in a name?". Songs dedicated to a person or entity.

Dream - Dogs

Had a weird dream last night. Revolved around the fact that a family friend had gone out and gotten us a dog. A blue-tick hound. And I was extremely upset about it... not wanting it.

Now, considering the fact that we currently have no dogs. And the devastating nature in which we lost them. I can understand my trepidation in not wanting another or not being ready for another one right now. What is somewhat puzzling to me is why it was that friend that was the source of the dog... and why it was that kind of dog.

Been working on the logo again. Found a better font to tie into the country style... also found the text warping tool I was looking for to curve it. Also, got rid of the black background... I decided it was not as appealing as I had thought it was to begin with. Now the background is transparant, graphic should look equally good on black or white, whatever color now. What do you think?

Tired of this.

I'm pretty furious at the moment, can't get rid of it. Tired of dealing with these creditors for the estate. Tired of digging through all of grandfather's crap just to find more tangles. Tired of his manipulative side deals. Tired of the wheeling and dealing, the one-upmanship. It makes me sick.

I about ripped this creditor out through the receiver. Completely unnecessary, however, when they call my cousin, in Florida... a place grandfather hasn't lived in over 15 years, asking about payment of a bill... that kinda pisses me off.

I'm tired of the strong arm attempts. The threats of sending an account to collection. The insinuation that the family is responsible for these bills. The throwing around of the fact that its an attorney.

I don't care! You aren't talking to someone unknowing about this stuff. You aren't going to bully me. You are only going to infuriate me further.

I AM TIRED OF THIS STUFF! Have to go to the bank tomorrow to clear up a 1800 discrepancy that they lost and to withdraw the funds to the estate account. I am in SUCH a pissy mood to deal with them.

I'm tired of hearing about the thief. I'm tired of hearing about how she is taking it hard, especially considering she isn't family. I am tired of looking at his checkbook and seeing all these entries of money to her... of finding receipts for loans, etc. I AM TIRED OF IT.

I am tired of people that should be helping not helping. I am tired of hearing the whining about where this is and where that is. Take care of this shit on your own next time... oh wait, this is the LAST time.

I am tired of being the one that steps in to handle it. I am tired of feeling like the others don't give a shit cause it is being handled. I am tired of listening to the whining when they don't give a shit about what is going on with me. I am tired.

The station seems to be moving along at a very fast pace. Another DJ added (kat, not me!), KMRL store just opened, shows on a regular basis. A job well done all around by everyone. I have made it a point to try to get into as many shows as I can. I like the music and its important to me to support them.

My first show was last night. It seemed to go off painlessly considering I have room for improvement. Then again, who doesn't. Doesn't seem to be a lot of people that like country music. Doesn't really bother me though... cause I like it, anyway.

I spent the better part of today wrestling with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to make a merchandise logo for Rustic Measure. I think it turned out pretty nifty, if I do say so myself.

It has now joined many of the other artists of the station on the KMRL store. Check em out, get your KMRL DJ Swag. And I swear, I am not modeling any banana hammocks!

Mare was kind enough to make me an intro for the show. I'm going to have to use it, it cracks me up. That woman has serious radio talent. I can't wait til her show is done!

Did I mention that I want a hat like the one in that icon! I needs me one EXACTLY like it!
