Rollback the State/Fed Gas Tax
On Saturday, September 3, 2005, Governor Sonny Perdue of Georgia announced a roll-back of the state's excise and sales tax on gasoline in response to the escalating gas prices and response to gasoline shortages needed for Katrina response:
The Brunswick News:The governor's order that took effect at midnight suspends Georgia's 7.5 cents-a-gallon excise tax and 4 percent sales tax on gasoline. It needs legislative approval to remain in effect, but with legislative leaders standing by him at an announcement Friday, that is almost guaranteed.
"It seems like a quick fix," Raines said. "I guess it's something until they straighten this out. But I do think it's a step in the right direction."
A novel and logical step in helping to stabilize some of the pressure from the latest set of catastrophes affecting the gas availability. Now if only the Fed would finally deign to release some of the reserve supply, especially in the South for relief.
