Battlestar Galactica - 201 - Scattered

At last, the long awaited return of my absolute favorite show. The teasers for this episode (Scattered) have left me all a tingley in anticipation and after watching it, I was not disappointed. For those that faithfully watched last season, they are aware of the cliffhanger events: President Roslin is overthrown by the military and Apollo commits treason to try to save her; Adama is shot twice by cylon-clone, Boomer; Starbuck and Helo are fighting over killing version 2 of cylon-clone Sharon on Caprica and the revelation of her "pregnancy"; and the sexy cylon siren death machine, Number Six, reveals to Dr. Baltar their love child on the ruins of Kobol.

(Read on at your own risk, spoiler-ville)

There is so much happening in this episode that I was glued to the television, nonblinking and gasping for breath on commercials. The full ramifications of Sharon's (Boomer) betrayal are felt as Adama is rushed to sick bay and goes into heart failure, leaving an unready Colonel Tigh in charge. As the crew tries to get their commander to assistance, a cylon base star jumps into their space and attacks forcing the fleet to flee, however, the battlestar quickly learns that they have jumped to an alternate location, losing the fleet. The Colonel is forced to do the unthinkable to relocate the fleet, jump back into their last location in the midst of a swarm of cylon raiders and recalculate where the fleet last jumped. To accomplish this goal, the techs network the computers of the Galactica (something which is taboo around any cylon as they can take over computer networks quickly) to calculate quickly whilst fleet vipers hold off the Raiders. While the Galactica is busy, Apollo, released from the brig on condition to fight, discovers a new cylon ship, the Centurion carrier, as it makes it way toward the battlestar, colliding into one of its ports. The episode ends with the Galactica narrowly escaping the base star with the fleet coordinates, however they are unaware of the boarding party of centurions massing in the ruptured hold. On Caprica, Helo and Starbuck are distracted long enough for Sharon (cylon-clone) to escape in Starbuck's ship, leaving them stranded in enemy territory.

This just gets better and better. I have not been disappointed once. I can already foresee the possibilities of so many different story angles from here. It's going to be an excellent season. I truly appreciate the fact that they have completely, almost biblically stuck to hard-core drama for the series, avoiding the camp of the show of yesteryears.
