I Want My MTV

The MTV of its origin. MUSIC TELEVISION. Not this shady reality tv knockoff.

I remember when MTV first came out. I was in Florida, my uncle Tim, who is only 6 years older than me had sat me down and told me that something cool was going to be on television.

As we watched patiently, a moonman appeared walking about the screen and we were treated to the video "Video killed the Radio Star". And so it began... a whirlwind relationship wherein hours were spent with the tv lovingly blaring as Veejays announced video after video. Michael Jackson, Pat Benetar, hair bands, you name it, they had a video.

Anyone remember the "I want my MTV" campaign to get it put on the more widely dispersed cable market? I remember marching to my cable office at home, with letter in hand, demanding my MTV. And you know what, they delivered. We got MTV at home too.

Ahhh those were the days.

Why has the channel foresaken us? Today it is a mere shadow of its once powerful youth. No longer can I turn on the channel I once was so attached to without seeing endless reality based series (Real World, Road Rules, Inferno, Osbournes, Meet the Barkers) or mind numbing date parody shows (Next, etc), or Pnk'd or Viva La Bam, or anything BUT music. Rename the channel already to something appropriate, stop with the sham already.

I long for my day long, night time, 24/7 vigil of endless music of all types.

I find myself turning to FUSE for comfort. I shall lament you, my poor forlorn lost MTV. *SOB*
