These days, it's been pretty crazy. I haven't been able to get a blog out in awhile what with the Labor Day holiday in relation to the day jobs busy-ness business so let's see if I can bring anyone interested up to speed. This post is about the iRadio station.
All I can say is "WOW". It's pretty intense. Webkittyn took last Wednesday off for surgery so there was no show but I want to thank those who stopped by the chatroom for coming by even though nothing was on the schedule. Our kick-ass playlist seemed to suffice as I hear that our default list beats some of our competitors actual shows in ratings!
The week before was a great night for Webkittyn Wednesday. The chatroom (recently made pithy by Coyote) was packed with people and the listenership was beyond our wildest expectations. It rivaled if not surpassed our hey day numbers at our old station. Within our first week unofficially open, our ratings on Live365 went from somewhere in the 2700+ rating scale to 75 without any talent on the schedule except for Webkittyn Wednesday!
So now we're filling up the schedule with lots of diverse talent at all different time slots. Morning shows, Late night romps, Prime time parties all dishing out all sorts of different genres and styles. I'll give you an example. I've heard punk rock radio shows before and wasn't amused until the new Deathsquad Show debuted last night. I tell ya, I was a fan within the first hour! It wasn't just his song selection either, but his commentary on everything from Iran to Mangolomaniacs*. It was smooth and well produced for a prerecorded show and best of all, his debut show pulled in amazing numbers! He's gonna be big, I can see it now!
People were so pumped afterward, we hung out in the chatroom like those parties that end, yet no one wants to go home yet... So I, like that guy at the party that pulls out a guitar and starts to strum, went across the hall to the newly built Darkstar Studios and decided to try it for the first time to make sure things checked out and that all systems are go because, Friday night will be my first solo show. The all new "Darkhours" will aire from 11pm to 1am EST so I want all the glitches out of the broadcast ahead of time. I even figured a way to use my Shure SM-58 studio mic for radio broadcasting. So if you have nothing to do on Friday night or you just started school and you want to feel like you went to some dark debaucherous club or want that Metro-Manhattan feel come on down. It's not like there's any other good iRadio on at that time anywhere anyway, right?
As for KMRL...We have allot of good shows planned. I'm not just saying that because I co-own the station. These are seriously GOOD shows! We lucked out on the talent we've amassed. Some have already been internet broadcasters or simply podcasters and some already come with huge blog or iRadio followings. Webkittyn is one helluva program director. It's even beginning to generate revenue already! Now THAT'S how you run a professional radio station!
Last nights show was another great time. It was once again packed and people are starting to relax more after recent developements. I tell ya...it's fun being part of a popular budding station.
And keep an ear out for the off hours. You never know who'd hijacked the station to do unscheduled practise runs.
