Ok... As a musician, the key to a successful song is the hook. I've noticed that songs that have the pleasing tones of bells seem to live forever. Todays quest? name a song that features bells in it that took off and set fire to the charts (I don't care WHAT charts).
My entry?
" Always something there to remind me" by Naked Eyes composed by Burt Bacharach (freaky, huh?)
Who could forget those church bells ringing for over 20 years?
Now....add your song to the comments, the post a comment on the blogger before you and mention that the Darkstar sent you...
Have fun!

Supplicated by: Utopia at September 2, 2005 08:13 AMFairly underrated as a band, I thought. Promises Promises was another good one by them, too, with some nice strings tucked behind the synth.
Songs with bells... Mike Oldfield is too easy (he actually did have a UK chart topper with the song used as the theme for the Excorcist...)
I'll stick with the 80's theme:
Soft Cell. Tainted Love. (There's bells in there somewhere)
I could list a lot more, but I think we're only allowed one. This one isn't really a chart topper (it got to #16, I think), so feel free to disqualify it.
Bruce Dickinson: [ stepping out of the booth ] That was gonna be a great track. Guys, what's the deal?
Eric: Are you sure that was sounding okay?
Bruce Dickinson: I'll be honest, fellas, it was sounding great. But... I could've used a little more cowbell. So... let's take it again.
"Don't fear the Reaper" Blue Öyster Cult...
(And the big list'o'songs with cow bells.

Hell's Bells - AC/DC
Supplicated by: WebKittyn at September 2, 2005 03:46 PMIve been accused of never hearing bells....BUT...I was wonder HOW the Pussycat Dolls kept on #1 for 4 weeks with ONE LAME SONG....it may not be EXACTLY bells...but a tenor triangle sounds enough like bells to catch the subconscious...DAMN I am listening for them now!
Darkstar...I should shoot you...

More of a local San Francisco band but it's a good song... with lots of bells.
I was listening to "Goodbye Yellow
Brick Road" today, and I don't think I heard any bells in it. Elton was a piano man...
Great one, Webkittyn, with "Hells Bells"
Meathe, your best bet was "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldnfield for I don't believe there were any bells in "Tainted Love".
Sorry Fata... I have a strange tendency to disect songs and home in on certain sounds to gain a new appreciation for the song. It makes me begin to love the song again when I get bored of it.
Supplicated by: Darkstar at September 3, 2005 12:14 AMHrm. You're right, on relistening, there aren't. Funny how the mind plays tricks.
For whom the bell tolls, Metallica.
I was actually going to put down "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave as I'd listened to that earlier this week. But given the release was limited to 2000 red vinyl singles, it wasn't ever going to be a chart topper.
Supplicated by: Meathe at September 3, 2005 09:35 PMI can't believe it, my co-worker just bought a car for $70815. Isn't that crazy!
