Project Progress Reports

T-minus 44 hours and counting.

Ok... A break from all this kitten caboodle for a moment. Like the Space shuttle, my original launch time of 019:00h 07.15.05 is delayed. We figured it best to a) not begin driving 127 miles to my engineers studio near Boston at night when thunderstorms are predicted.
b) Not to do this after working all day. How good would I be trying to get it together then?

Although I thought I'd save time, I'd probably be wiped if I worked, drove, checked in and then tried to set up. Bleh. Later on, I'll post pics when I get home of the environments I'll be experiencing.

I'm just wondering how this will turn out. I thought I was impressed by my first attempt at this song. Maybe I was just impressed that I was actually off my ass tracking again. As days and weeks went by, I began to loathe it and tear it down, using it as an example of what NOT to do this go round. There will be many changes.

What I'd like to get done.:

1) overtrack the original drums to combine them with Fantom Funk rhythm patches.

2) Re-record the intro with new spoken words.

3) Lay new melody tracks for the first verses in lower key (or re do them all in the proper keys.)

4) Lay a main vocal. Lay a low deep eerie Peter Steele type sub vocal track at least in the first verse.

5) Lay an eerie old man "Sith Lord" track in the background speaking the lyrics. All eerie tracks are meant to be off to the side in the listeners ear... almost inaudible but enough to want to hunt for. They can't be blatant, they must be discovered.

6) Cut and manipulate choir samples. Create backing choirs.

7) Overlap the bridges. Gives the vocal more time and doesn't sound crowded, forced or strained. Track them as every other line. Alternate channels left to right in Darkside style.

8) Use all new key/note changes for the chorus (so it stops sounding like the verse) and go DOWN in key at the end of each bridge line... not UP. It makes me trill. BAD.

9) remember that there are to be TWO versions of the eerie bells. Bells always make for a good hook in a song.

10) Figure out the best spots to attempt the ROAR - Snikkt sound effect if it can be used at all.

11) Add newly fashioned but simple bass line. (oh my god! BASS LINE?!?)

12) Get that JJ Flash snazzy guitar in there. Make it hard. Get chuggs...GOOD CHUGS!

13) Remember... The sound being built and created is designed to inspire a near religious experience.

Ok.. There... I laid out some notes for myself... Now I'm missing one thing. Juju. How useful is my Karma now? Ok... There was the kitty rescue... But I'm still a shit to my friends. Do you know the other day I pointed blame for allot of my shortcomings at other people... But not upon myself for not handling it sooner or better? I look back on allot of shit that may have been different if I didn't think for other people or had just opened my mouth to what was on my mind.

Lately... I've taken a vow of silence. I don't speak my mind as much as I used to. The old joke used to be :"4 words not to ask Darkstar- 'What do you think?'". Now I just sit and take it. Crap I got lazy. Time for the old Rocky theme to start and for me to start my midnight meatlocker jaunts.

I'm hoping this trip will fire me up and jumps start me into being psyched about this all again. From what I've heard... The world is waiting. Then maybe when I'm more myself and less of a shit... I'll get my muse!

How bad could this get? I'M the producer. Only I know how it should be... Lets hope it ends up that way.

Friday night after kitten patrol... I'll try to go to bed earlier... I want to be out by say... Oh...am? I'll figure it out. Anyone who reads my drivel... Send me your darkest vibes to fuel me. Thanks.
